Resurfacing is our proprietary system that gently sands light scratches, scuffs, ground-in dirt, and dullness away. It does NOT affect the color (other than brightening) and does NOT sand away precious wood. This process is used on all types of wood flooring and is the most cost-effective flooring service we offer and starts at only 99¢ per square foot. Most projects can be completed in hours, rather than days.
Refinishing means sanding your floors down to bare wood, re-staining (your choice of color) and applying polyurethane. If oil-based polyurethane is desired, we will apply 2 coats and lightly sand between coats. With water-based poly; 3 coats are applied with careful sanding in between coats 1 and 2 and scuffing between coats 2 and 3. Of course we “tack” (clean the dust) prior to each coat. This is the method most are familiar with; it takes 2 to 4 days and provides the homeowner with a finish that is as close to perfection as humanly possible. Because our prices are so low, our service is one of the most affordable hardwood floor services out there.
We will guide you with pros and cons of each method, we will not sell you a service that will not deliver what you want. A deep scratch here and there may not be a bad thing. Some folks call it character, some turn it into a story, some simply don’t see the “value added” with the added expense of removing the deep scars. If you have pets or children, removing ALL scratches may very well be a temporary thing. Maybe resurfacing is the right direction, maybe all you need to do is to protect your long-term investment. We are happy to assist you with any questions you may have; just give us a call. We will not push you into a service that you don’t need.
Cleaning the pet accidents when they are fresh is the key to maintaining your hardwood floors. If you are still unable to remove the urine stain and warping after following the steps outlined below, then more invasive restoration is most likely necessary to restoring your hardwood floors. While we are pretty confident we can handle most pet stains, contact us prior to setting up the appointment so that together we can determine the severity of the stain.
White Vinegar and water (1 part vinegar to 4 parts water). Put together a spray bottle kit to take care of small accidents and a bucket for the bigger stains. Scrub stains thoroughly. After you’re sure its clean, wipe it completely dry. Then, dry it again. DO NOT use any products containing ammonia. Pet urine actually has ammonia in it, so if you clean with the same stuff, your pets will think that’s the place to urinate.
Our process is practically dust-free. Our fancy equipment is pretty controlled to regulate the amount of dust escaping into your home’s air. Basically, just a virtually non-existent smattering of dust is left on your floors, easily cleaned up. No airborne dust is generated, none. The remaining dust on the floor is vacuumed up, then the surface is cleaned with tack rags.
For resurfacing, we use only waterborne products that are “Greenguard” certified. The only smell is a very light, pleasant aroma.
The GREENGUARD Environmental Institute, part of UL Environment, has the mission of protecting human health and quality of life by improving indoor air quality and reducing chemical exposure. The GREENGUARD Certification Program helps manufacturers create – and helps buyers identify – interior products and materials that have low chemical emissions, improving the quality of the air in which the products are used.
